What is a Dental Implant? read more »
This is again the most asked-for item for those taking advantage of dental tourism. Implants are basically „imitation-roots”, made out of titanium that the dentist hedge into the bone (maxilla or the mandible). Titanium has been used not only in dental surgery for many years now, and is proved to be a well tolerated alien material by the human body. Almost any kind of absence in the teeth can be compensated by the implantation method, providing the anatomy of the patient is suitable.
Certification of Implants
Supplement options:
Linespacing absence – when only one or two teeth are missing from a basically intact arch. In this case the compensation is done by the aid of the implant without grinding the neighbouring healthy teeth, as the supplement is fitted to the implant itself.
Several absence – when several teeth are missing from the arch. In this case obviously more so called „imitation-roots” are needed, and a fixed bridge is proposed to be placed onto the implants.
Global absence – when all or nearly all teeth are missing. The course of the treatment again depends on the anatomy of the patient. Therefore, a wide range of options can come into account. From a full porcelain round-bridge, full removable prosthesis - both fixed to the implants - to the less convenient non-fixed fully removable denture. Moreover it is possible to make a combination of the fixed and non-fixed versions if desired.
Surgery – A thorough consultation and examination of the patient is required prior to surgery, where the dentist will determinate the date of the intervention and the amount and the type of implants required for the chosen supplements. The patient will also be advised of the post-surgery round of duties. The surgery is certain to be carried out with local anaesthesia.
One week after the surgery the stiches will be removed. The full recovery and the ossification takes approximately 4-6 months, when the final supplements can be fabricated then placed onto the implants.
In order for the implants to last for a long time it is very important to carry out regular check ups on them as well as maintaining proper oral hygiene. Supplements built onto implants sometimes require extra attention in cleaning them so please seek for advice from our dentists on this matter.
A successful implantation:
An implantation is considered to be succesful when the patient has no permanent pain, nor sensation of a „foreign” substance within the mouth. Furthermore the gum around it is free from inflammation and the imitation root is steadily captivated.
(We are proud of the fact that 99% of the implantations made in our clinic are successful.)
